There are some nice average size fish being taken at Outside Lighthouse Bank. The bite seems to be good one day and slower the next, but this is where most of the better fish are coming from. Sometimes the bite starts a bit slow and it just takes figuring out what the fish are going to take. Sizes here have been mostly ranging from...
We have been getting fish at Long Beach, Great Bear, Sail Rock and Big Bank. For the last week there have been Gray and Humpback Whales working between Great Bear and Sail rock, so it makes a little fishing bonus.

Fishing on the west coast of Vancouver Island near Ucluelet should be very good this summer. Fishing has already been red hot this spring for Chinook salmon and halibut fishing should start getting good in May. We should have strong runs coming through in June/July from the Columbia and other rivers. BC river fish which are usually larger will start coming through in August.
Every year we spend time trying to figure out what the next summer is going to bring. Some years the forecast is inconclusive with some good projections and others mixed. This was one of those years.
Well it is mid September and the fish just keep rolling through. We are getting both Chinook and coho only a few minutes run from the harbour and we have been very happy with the results. We have had to work around the weather on a couple days, but over all fishing conditions have been favorable and the Chinook just keep rolling through
Chinook fishing in close to shore as stayed hot and we continue to get our limits, often after just a few hours. The weather has been very good and that has made the fishing quite relaxing and scenic. We expect fishing to be good for a few days still and are pleasantly surprised how good the fishing has been for the mature Chinook this late.
Fishing has been good the past two weeks and South Bank, Big Bank, South West Corner, Long Beach and just recently Wya Point have been good for Chinook. Coho seem to mostly be at Big Bank and though there are a few being caught in close to shore as well. Halibut have been pretty consistent though have been a little tougher on Big Bank so we have been fishing off Amphitrite Bank for them.
The fishing report is out a little late this time but it doesn’t have anything to do with the fishing! The Chinook fishing has been pretty steady at South Bank, Lighthouse Bank, Southwest Corner and Big Bank. We have been catching most of our halibut at Big Bank and anchored in a few different spots on Amphitrite bank.
The fish keep on rolling through and we have had many happy customers the past 10 days since our last report. Big Bank keeps rolling decent sized Chinook and halibut. In shore places such as Little Beach, Wya Point (closed starting August 1 for Chinook over 77cm) have been doing well, especialy early morning bites.
July Chinook and Halibut fishing has been stellar and we are catching fish in multiple locations which shows how many fish are on the banks right now. Big Bank has been very consistent, the Inside and Outside Lighthouse bank and Inside South Bank are catching good numbers of Chinook.
Chinook fishing has been good in both inshore and offshore waters. Big Bank has been consistent, Long Beach has had some decent bites and Florencia Bay has been steady. Big Bank has the biggest numbers of total fish and Chinook, Coho and Halibut fishing has been very good there the past few days.
Sometimes you have a hard time finding new words to describe what has been happening for weeks in a row. Awesome. Chinook (King) salmon fishing has been very good and we have been getting great average size fish for this time of year.
Since our last posted report June 11, fishing has just been going bonkers. Our guests are limiting out every day with Chinook salmon and most days they are getting opportunities to get into 20 plus pound Chinook.
Fishing has really picked up the past week and we are getting some good sized Chinook showing up with the largest this week at 27 and 28lbs. We have also had a few in the 20lb range as well. Our most common bait the past week has been anchovies and small 3 inch spoons.
The last week has been a little slower during the mornings than early May for both salmon and halibut. The afternoons have been much better with bigger fish being taken. The most consistent morning spot has been inside South Bank and the bite seems to be later morning
Fishing has been very good for us so far this season and we expect things will continue of the rest of the early season as well as the summer. We have been getting either our limits or close to our limits of Chinook salmon and halibut on most trips this past couple weeks.
Chinook fishing has been very good so far in both April and May and now we are starting to get halibut as well. Some decent size Chinook are starting to show up and Dan’s group managed to get some nice Chinook this morning with the biggest at 22lbs.
Chinook fishing has been very good the past few days and we are seeing some great signs for the 2015 season. Humpback whales are back along with good amounts of baitfish the past week. On Thursday we fished South Bank and hooked 8 Chinook (Kings) salmon and released them.
Salmon fishing for Chinook has been decent in Barkley Sound though you may have to travel around a bit to find your hot spot. Salmon are mostly going in the 6-12lb range with a few larger fish being taken. The two largest fish taken on the weekend derby were 23 and 21lbs.
This past summer had people all excited with expectations of a record returns of Chinook headed through Ucluelet for the Columbia River. While the Columbia River did get a record return a little just over last years numbers, we didn’t see all these fish pass in front of us as expected.
The Chinook fishing was pretty consistent in the first week of September near Little Beach. The only thing that kept changing was the bait. The fish switched from small spoons, to anchovies to needle fish hutchies. Most of the Chinook were in the 15-20lb range with a few going bigger.
Chinook fishing has been good at Outside Lighthouse Bank and South Bank this past week and a half since my last fishing report. The Chinook seem to be all depths and biting on different set ups from day to day. Needlefish hutchies, cuddlefish, 4 inch Coyote spoons and large Tomic spoons have been doing well.
Fishing has moved offshore for us since Florencia Bay is closed August 1 for Chinook over 77 cm. The good news is that we have been doing most of our fishing relatively close so far. South Bank and Lighthouse Bank have been the hotspots so far.
We have been enjoying a whole month fishing Florencia Bay. It has been pretty consistent day to day and the water is some what sheltered making it the perfect place to fish with a great view in the background.
Chinook fishing continues to be good in Florencia Bay and this is where we are primarily fishing. This partially protected place is one of the best places to fish this July and the Chinook keep rolling through.
Chinook salmon fishing has been good for us in Florencia Bay this past couple weeks. The squid are still there in large schools and we are seeing the Chinook come in throughout the day to feed.
Chinook and Coho are have been biting well in Florencia Bay the past few days and there have been sporadic bites at Great Bear, the Red Can and Beg, and Little Beach.
The Chinook fishing over the past couple weeks hasn’t been as fast as we had hoped considering the large run expected to come through here, however that means the majority Chinook are still on their way.
Fishing the past few weeks has been very good. We have been getting Chinook in the 10-20lb range, Coho, and Halibut. The Chinook have been at South Bank, Great Bear, Sail Rock, and inside Barkley Sound
As forecasted the Chinook are starting to show up in very good numbers. The past few years Chinook fishing has been pretty good, but now it is just going bonkers, literally.
This time of year we normally get Chinook in the 7-20 lb range. We also have days like we did Saturday where we catch 5 good size Chinook all between 14-22 lbs.
March to May fishing was up and down with a range of 2-8 Chinook on most days. The weather often kept us in close but we still had decent success around Beg Island and Great Bear.
The weather has been great and we have been getting some beautiful sunsets while out fishing! September busyness is winding down giving us some time to get out and have some fun fishing while taking some nice scenic pictures.
Fishing has been good both at Big Bank for Coho and Chinook and also for Coho and the odd Chinook in close to the Lighthouse. We had a weather system for a few days near the end of August which made it hard to get to Big Bank, but there were still some fish in close.
Chinook fishing has been a little up and down the past few days, one day being very good and the next one where the bite takes a while to come on.
Chinook fishing has been good in mostly two spots, Big Bank and the Bamfield 12 mile. We are getting a mixed bag of feeders and some mature fish mixed in. As usual the Chinook are biting better on different lures every day.
Chinook fishing has been consistently good on the Shallows at Big Bank and we seem to getting some nice average size Chinook there the past few days.
Hotspots are changing by the day though Big Bank still remains the consistent place to get your Chinook and Halibut. Coho fishing is still good in around Chrow.
Fishing has been great at Big Bank continually and off and on for South Bank for Chinook. It seems most of the Chinook are staying off shore a ways a we are mostly getting Coho in close.
Much of the best fishing has moved to Big Bank and the most popular place seems to be the Rats nose. Chinook fishing is very fast there and they seem to be biting at all depths. Both coyote spoons and hutchies are working well.
Chinook fishing the past couple weeks has been good, though spots continually change. One day we are catching them at Great Bear and the next at Sail. South Bank has been very good some days and others very slow.
We are seeing spurts of larger Chinook come through which is a good sign of things to come. There are also lots of feeder Chinook around and the Coho are showing up in good numbers now.
Early June in Ucluelet usually brings some rain, clouds, and some good Chinook fishing! So far, though, we have had mostly dry weather and that is always nice. As the season begins, Chinook fishing has been great and we are pleased to see good numbers showing up.
This season, we should have great Chinook fishing, with the highest numbers during June and July, with some of the larger Chinook coming late July and August, as usual.
Fishing has been steady when we can get out and fish. The weather is starting to get warmer and we will be on the fishing season very soon.
Fishing hasn’t been on fire for Chinook salmon, but we have been picking up a few nice ones, in the teens, on most our trips. We’ve been using needlefish hoochies and coyote spoons around Great Bear rocks.
Early season Chinook fishing was productive, as we expected. March and April were good. May slowed a little, but June picked up and by late June fishing was rolling along well.
We have mostly been at Big Bank the last few days. My favorite place has been right on the Shallows, however most boats are down off the Rats nose.
We have mostly been fishing offshore or close to Little Beach the last week. Some of our boats have had some good success at Little Beach for bigger Chinook.
The Chinook are still keeping us switching spots every day or two. One day its on Big Bank, then next on the Southwest Corner or Starfish.
We have run to Big Bank now more this year and all of last year. Though there can just be smaller fish there some days, we are getting days with lots of 10-20 lb Chinook mixed in.
Halibut fishing has been much stronger this year and we are getting Halibut in multiple spots. Some are on the anchor chasing a few 30-70 lb Halibut. Mostly we are trolling or bottom bouncing as this takes less time.
Fishing has been up and down for the past week. We have had some really good days and some days where we have been searching for bigger fish. The one constant is that there are lots of Coho, though our prime target of course is the Chinook!
A few 30 plus Chinook are making their way here, though we are mostly getting a mix of small, medium and large Chinook. On a couple days the small Chinook were so numerous it made it difficult to get the larger Chinook.
Early July has continued getting better with more bigger fish arriving. More Chinook in the high teens are being taken. Hotspots include Long Beach Bank, Inside and Outside Lighthouse Bank, Effingham, and the nipple on Big Bank all have Chinook and Coho. 4-inch coyote and Silver Horde Spoons are working well along with glow needlefish hutchies.
Early July has started out very similarly to late June. There are still lots of smaller Chinook around and a few larger ones making clients happy. Portland point, Long Beach Bank, Inside and Outside Southbank, Sail Rock, Effingham, and the Rats Nose all have Chinook and Coho.
One week brings a whole lot of change in Ucluelet! We had some days where we didn’t find many Chinook until 10 am before getting a whole bunch in a row and other days where we were done by 10 am with our limit. We fished Longbeach bank, Inside and Outside Lighthouse Bank, Florencia Bay, and the Shallows on Big Bank
June fishing always brings some rain, clouds, and early Chinook! There are small feeder Chinook at all depths with a few larger ones taken as well. The Chinook have been in a few different spots including Long Beach, South Bank and Lighthouse bank.
Fishing is starting to pickup and we are seeing some larger Chinook start to show up. There still are lots of small feeder Chinook at all depths. Our guide Simeon released one about 20 lbs while trolling for halibut this morning, but they had already kept their limit of Chinook.
March and April fishing were very good for Chinook salmon. The average size was between 8-12 lbs with a few larger fish being caught. Most of the fish were caught around Great Bear and Alley Rock which are about 15 mins from the harbor mouth.
Season Recap 2011 Ucluelet Chinook(King) fishing was excellent this past summer as was forecasted. The peak Chinook(King) fishing changes a little every summer because the timing of the runs varies every year. Ocean temperature, amount of feed along return path and pressure changes all have an impact on the arrival of the large returning fish.
Coho fishing has been great–there are so many that we will hit them every minute or two if not fishing the 7″ plugs. Even while fishing plugs we are still catching lots. Chinook fishing continues to be very good.
Well I guess the pictures will tell the story. More good fishing and more fun! The Chinook are out at the Starfish as well as Outside Lighthouse bank.
The Chinook salmon fishing continues to impress us and the wow factor never gets boring. We get used to filling the box day after day. We know that this area is special and don’t take it for granted. If you are wanting to come experience large Chinook (Kings) in 2012 this is the place to come! July and August are our busiest months so book very early!
The last couple weeks have seen good fishing for most days. We had a couple days in late July where the fishing was a little slower, however, once we found the new spot it was great fishing again.
The BIG Chinook(Kings) have continued in very good numbers. Again, every day we are expecting to have most of our catch being 20lb plus Chinook. If you are looking for 20 plus fish and lots of them, now is the time to come.
The BIG Chinook(Kings) have arrived in very good numbers. Every day we are expecting to have most of our catch being 20lb plus Chinook. If you are looking for 20 plus fish and lots of them, now is the time to come.
The salmon and halibut seem to be changing places quite often. Sometimes they are on Lighthouse bank, sometimes Big Bank, sometimes Long Beach bank. You never know from day to day where they are going to be.
We have been getting Chinook in quite a few different spots this last week including Inside South, Outside South Bank, Lighthouse Bank, Long Beach Bank and Great Bear. The fish seem to be moving around quite a bit and spots often change from day to day.
Randy and Sarah Andrashewski and sons April 18, 2011 Chinook 12-18 lbs
We have been getting Chinook in quite a few different spots this last week including Inside South, Outside South Bank, Lighthouse Bank, Long Beach Bank and Great Bear.
Halibut fishing stayed strong right through the end of the season….in fact much stronger than normal. We see the stocks continuing to be strong right through 2009 and beyond. Halibut fishing was good most of the year near the Wreck as well as Big Bank. We limited out most days while targeting halibut.
Fishing around Great Bear has started to pick up for feeder Chinooks. There are also some Chinook being caught around Sail Rock, however our boats have been generally fishing with good success around Great Bear.
