Fishing Report May 31, 2026 Ucluelet BC
Chinook (King) Fishing
Chinook fishing has been better than anticipated for April and May. Last season we had some good fishing in April and early May. This year the good fishing has continued and its been with in 10 minutes of the harbour mouth like it often is this time of year. Most of feed is tiny this time of year though you can catch Chinook on both the larger Gibbs skinny G and smaller Silver Horde 3 inch spoons. Anchovies also work though there has been lots of feed around and spoons have been working well and often do this time of year. The squid have started to spawn so hutchies will be working all summer now.
The last week its been in protected water which has been beneficial on a couple of windy NW days.
Coho fishing
Coho are showing up. June 1st we will have retention in of 1 marked (adipose fin clipped) and 1 unmarked inside the surf line and 2 marked outside the surfline.
Halibut fishing
Halibut fishing has been steady and you could say normal for this time of year. We expect the halibut fishing to keep getting stronger for June right into August.
Lingcod fishing
The lingcod fishing has mostly been good. There have been some really good days the past week and some slower days. Generally during May and June the Lingcod fishing is good. Lingcod get more pressure than they did 20 years ago and we are having to find new spots but often have success with them.
Why is Ucluelet one of the best places to catch salmon in the world?
I wrote a post about the best place to catch salmon in BC and I really believe BC is the best place in the world for ocean Chinook (King) salmon fishing which is generally when you get the salmon before they have drastically changed color.
What makes Ucluelet extra special?
Besides being a premier hot spot for both Chinook (King) salmon, Coho (Silver) salmon and halibut, Ucluelet is unique for its calm water options.
During May, June and early July (last year all summer), the fishing in protected water can be the best fishing and even if not, is often very good.
You can check out the areas visit www.Ucluelet-Info.com or get one of our fishing packages available at https://www.salmoneye.net/site/fishing-packages.html.
If you want to book a day fishing trip instantly you can do so on fishing.arctrips.com.
We have very little ocean view accommodation but still have some cabins available.
For large groups we have a 31’ NW Aluminum boat which can take up to 8 people.
Below, some pictures from the past couple weeks.
